Tipperary Inn

By Jim White

My faithful Irish "cousin" Jamie O’White takes over today’s column. He insists on bringing you something suitable for the "wearin’ o’ the green" on St. Patty’s Day. Take it away, Jamie.

My American "cousin" is delusional. He seems to think that great Irish pub fare and some delightful atmosphere to match are only suitable on March 17th. Not true, Jimmy me boy!

Especially when it’s as good as Tipperary Inn. It’s been an East Dallas favorite for years. Up until recently it was a cozy little place to get a pint of Guinness and some hearty grub.

They’ve gone and expanded the place and even opened earlier so you can try delicacies of my homeland for lunch.

Step inside and you’ll swear you’re in Dublin—great little corners and tidy little booths for the sharin’ of a meal or the swappin’ of a tale. And, of course, another pint of Guinness!

Feast on Shepherd’s Pie ($8.95), with ground sirloin and vegetables in a savory sauce, seasoned just right and topped with mashed potatoes and cheese.

One bite of the Guinness Beef Stew ($7.95) and you might think you’ve dined and gone to heaven.

Beer battered Fish & Chips ($9.95) is stick to your ribs good.

Other traditional favorites include Corned Beef & Cabbage ($9.50) and a treat from the countryside called Boxty. It’s a potato pancake filled with all sorts of good things like beef stew ($8.95), pork loin and mushrooms ($8.95) or smoked salmon ($9.95).

Other treats include grilled quail ($13.95), braised lamb shank ($9.95) and Guinness B.B.Q. Shrimp ($13.95). Cousin Jim, shouldn’t you be gettin’ us another wee pint?

All these morsels are served with homemade soda bread and Irish butter. Faith and Begorrah!

Now, before you go, be sure to try the Bailey’s Irish Cream cake for dessert ($3.95). What you don’t finish I will.

One visit and you’ll be sold. This is what you’re lookin’ for at the end of the rainbow…a pot o’ gold.

That’s no Blarney. Back to you, James.

Thanks, Jamie. I liked it, too.
