Texadelphia
This is the story of the little Cheese Steak Sandwich that could. Could attract
huge crowds at lunch time. Could please the Cheese Steak purist from South Philly. Could launch a 19 restaurant
expansion plan in less than a year. Could leap tall buildings in a single bound. Welcome to Texadelphia. The hot
Cheese Steak, and more, operation that's taken Uptown Dallas by storm, and is poised for manifest destiny. It's
a concept born in Austin. U.T. buddies Mike Landis, Brian Mitts and Mike Rossi wanted to bring their favorite college
hangout to Dallas. Now, they're ready to expand Texadelphia around the Metroplex and possibly nationwide. The Uptown
location is funky and casual. It's a good lunchtime alternative for the young business professional who's in a
hurry and wants to escape high-end restaurant prices; cool tunes, cold brew and hot sandwiches. The deck is great
when the weather's nice. The menu is simple. It's sandwiches, chips and salsa served in a Mason Jar. If you haven't
tried a Cheese Steak ($4.60), start there and then branch out. I'm told by a native from Philadelphia that this
sandwich compares favorably to the world's best from Pat's Cheese Steak in South Philly. To insure authenticity,
Texadelphia has the meat and the buns shipped-in. You can add extras (jalapenos, mushrooms, lettuce and tomatoes,
etc.) and sauces (mustard blend, picante, ranch, etc.) to suit your taste. A popular variation on the theme is
the Chicken Cheese Steak ($4.75). They also have smoked turkey ($4.25), and a good lean burger ($3.95). I thought
the Italian Sub ($4.25) was great. It's a hoagie roll packed with salami, provolone, ham and all the trimmings.
One bite of this Cheese Steak and you'll be a believer. I keep looking for excuses to be in the neighborhood at
lunch time. One word of caution. The place is crowded during the noon rush. Friday is a madhouse. Go early or late
unless you don't mind the wait.
