St. Pete's Dancing Marlin

Head on down to St. Pete's Dancing Marlin for a taste of Deep Ellum. The dancing marlin is optional (actually mounted) and holding court in the casual lunch spot. You'd think with a name like Dancing Marlin there might be seafood on the menu. You'd be right, but I wouldn't blink or you might miss it. Here's the whole list: calamari ($5.95), Dancing Tuna Steak ($9.95) and a Dancing Tuna Sandwich ($6.95). I haven't had the pleasure of an actual dance with any of 'em, but I want to lead when and if I do. Instead, I opted for the grilled chicken Caesar ($6.95)-big chunks of chicken and a good flavor-and a big, juicy St Pete's Burger ($4.95). The place is a no frills, no nonsense, hip-lunch-crowd kinda place with a full-range menu-good munchies, a lot of variety-and about fifty beers (bottled) from all over the place and another half-dozen or so on draft. There's root beer, too! This is not low-cal city. So, caveat emptor! Gimme some stuffed jalapenos ($4.75), decadent cheese fries ($3.75) or some St. Pete's chili by the cup ($2.80), or the bowl ($3.95). Pete's Pasta is a good bet. You get soup or salad and fresh bread with a range of traditional pastas and a host of sauces for $7.95. I like the Italian sausage or the garlic and olive oil. You can also add chicken breast or shrimp for $2.00. Maybe a Penne with pesto and some chicken? Um-m! Pizza is on the menu, too. Get a cheese pizza for $5.50 plus 50 cents for additional items. Pick a topping, it's there. I've done business here and found the noise level tolerable for conversation, the service efficient and the setting conducive to a laid-back meeting or an office group. What the heck, take a break; enjoy lunch.
