Spasso's When in the course of human events it becomes necessary to have a quick lunch, but the drive-through's not the course you want; declare your independence from burgers and head to Spasso's Pizza and Pasta. This review happened at The McKinney Avenue location while I had thirty minutes between appointments one harried day. Of course, I do these derring-do lunches as a public service, so you'll have time-crunch choices, not because of poor time management on my part. In that half-hour I even managed to work on a proposal and return a phone call or two (precision time management is my specialty). Choose one of the seven lunch specials, all served with salad, for only $4.95, including: meatball sandwich; chicken sandwich; pasta of the day; Calzone; or an individual eight-inch pizza with two toppings. Over two dozen pasta dishes; spaghetti, lasagna-meat or veggie-fettuccini; tortellini; penne. There's Italian style, Santa Fe style, Cajun Style. Everything I've tried is good. The prices range from $6.50 to $10.75. Rather than use valuable time deliberating, I chose discretion over valor (a pizza and a salad), so as not to upset my on-time predilection. I know I can linger over choices another day. Ah, the pizzas. Designer pizzas, with chicken and white sauce; alligator sausage; shrimp; Hawaiian; California pepperoni; low-fat vegetarian and more; priced by the size: $12.75 for a 12-inch medium; $15.75 for a 16-inch large; or $22.75 for a 20-inch extra-large. Traditional pizzas, too, at Spasso's. I love the crust; thick around the edge, thin in the middle; nice and chewy. Don't want pizza or pasta? Then try one of the dozen or more salads. If you can think of it, it's probably there-for about 7 bucks. The check arrives. The meal, quick but satisfying. I'm feeling cocky as I wheel into the parking lot for my next meeting--visions of leading a time-management seminar dance in my head. I check my book...my appointment's not for an hour.
