Saint-Emilion
A wonderful, old house. A charming, comfortable setting. Warm, friendly service.
Add the right two people and it can be a very romantic place. And the food? It's out of this world-certainly, out
of this country. These are the ingredients, along with the best Country French cuisine in The Metroplex, that make
Saint-Emilion in Fort Worth so memorable. From the moment you enter Saint-Emilion you have the feeling of being
transported to the countryside of Western France. After dining, I fully expected to step out of the restaurant
into the beautiful region East of Bordeaux, instead of "where the West begins" in Fort Worth's cultural
district. But I'm oh-so-glad that Saint-Emilion is as close as Seventh Street and not a day's journey across the
Atlantic. The country duck Pate Maison is a classic. Or, hickory-smoked North Atlantic salmon may be more to your
liking in the appetizer department. There's always traditional escargot; the snails swimming in a rich garlic butter.
It's a very simple menu really--in keeping with the relaxed lifestyle of rural France. Saint-Emilion's menu is
easy to maneuver. Salads and hors d'oeuvres are conveniently arranged on one side of a printed hand-bill. While
house favorite main-course items are detailed on the other side. Here you'll find the most tender, succulent, melt-in-your-mouth
rotisserie duck you'll likely ever have; roasted crispy and served with a sun-dried cherries and golden raisin
sauce. The beef tenderloin is a popular choice. And all the seafood is fresh. The selections picked just for Saint-Emilion
and flown in from Boston. Nightly blackboard specials complete the dining options. Special hors d'oeuvres, salad
and entree selections are listed. You can select ala carte, or prix fixe and enjoy appetizer, main course and dessert
for one price. As you might imagine, the wine list is French and Saint-Emilion offers some interesting selections
from limited production Chateaux. Worth a trip from anywhere for the wonderful ambiance and food, Saint-Emilion
makes an especially attractive destination if you're visiting the Kimbell or a showing at a nearby gallery. Saint-Emilion
is located at 3617 W. Seventh Street. Phone for reservations: 817-737-2781.
