Rocco’s Pasta
By Jim White
Choice is good. Here’s a handy
little neighborhood Italian restaurant offering several.
As the name suggests, Rocco’s
Pasta can fix you up with a variety of "pick a pasta"
options: From angel hair to spaghetti (what, no ziti?), lavished
with your choice of sauces and served with house salad and garlic
bread.
Price depends on the sauce, but runs
from $6.95—marinara sauce—to $7.95—red or white clams. It’s
a bargain.
The salad, with house vinaigrette,
is a good mix of fresh greens, and the bread is toasty and garlicky,
as you would hope.
Sandwiches aren’t as impressive,
they taste warmed up, but certainly do the trick if that’s what
you’re in the mood for. Meatball Parmigiano ($6.95) and veal
cutlet Parmigiano ($7.95) were the ones we tried. They’re served
with a side of pasta salad.
Pasta salad is also available as an
entrée. The best of the bunch are tortellini with pesto, and plum
tomatoes, basil and spices with ziti (ah ha! There it is!)—both
$6.95.
Appetizer highlights include
Brushcetta Alla Rocco, spilling over with tomatoes, ($5.95) and
fried mozzarella with marinara sauce ($4.95). If you like chicken
wings, bring the whole office complex. They’re offered in portion
size from 10 to 100 pieces.
Good soups are offered daily. The
white bean soup and the tortellini in chicken broth are the ones to
ask for ($3.95).
A range of Italian desserts are
available, including cannoli ($1.95), tiramisu ($3.95) and various
cheesecakes ($3.95).
This is a simple place, with
friendly service. Mainly people who work right around the I-30 and
Collins area frequent it. It’s a good place to consider if you’re
in the neighborhood and want something besides burgers, sandwiches
or Mexican food. It’s a pretty quick lunch, too, so keep it in
mind if you’re pressed for time.
You can even save time on another
meal, because you can buy their pastas, sauces, and pasta salad in
quantity to go.
More choices. I like that.
