P.D. Johnson's Dog Day Deli Dog days used to mean just another string of sultry, stifling, sweaty summer days. Now, there's a more appealing image to attach to the phrase thanks to a new lunch spot on McKinney, P.D. Johnson's Dog Day Deli. I liked the place the minute I walked in. There's attitude onboard here--it tends toward irreverent rather than in your face-and the sandwiches are doggoned good! Wrap you chops around a Super Hot Johnson and you may never let go! These super-cool subs are served on honey-baked white, wheat or rye and sourdough, $5.54 for a regular or $6.42 for a large. Plow through that chalkboard menu with dogged determination. Wolf down a Hot Harley-roast beef, provolone, onions, peppers and spicy mayo. You'll howl! Lap up a larrapin' good Lefty-turkey, Muenster and honey mustard. You'll drool for Super cold Johnson's. Once you get the scent of The Original-roast beef, turkey, bacon, horsey-mayo and cheddar-you'll be on the right trail to track-down the other variations. These sandwiches will make you pant because of the endless variety and the munchy, crunchy texture inside that soft, tasty bread. The fixin's include lettuce, tomato, onion, green peppers, and salad peppers. Foot-long Dogs ($3.93) are served with lots of different toppings. Only a wienie would pass up the Top Dog with chili, cheese, onions and mustard. Soups and salads make for a nice option. Be sure to fetch a Meat Head with turkey, ham, cheddar, Swiss, and oh yeah, all that green stuff ($4.85) You can also get a big ole baked potato ($3.01), or with chili, cheese and onion ($3.93). Hot diggity dog! You'll be barkin' up the wrong tree if you don't stop by P.D. Johnson's. Dine in, or phone ahead and have a doggy bag delivered.
