Norma's Café I can only say two things about Norma's Cafe: Yum. Yum. Actually I can say another: Yum! I started enjoying Norma's almost thirty years ago. I stayed in Oak Cliff, I think, to be close to the original on Davis. I didn't want to get too far from that double chicken fried steak, Norma's style. Norma's has modernized and expanded, but kept its good 'ol home-cookin' flavor. It's grown to three locations now. I never imagined Norma's in North Dallas (on Beltline) but it's thrived there for years. I'm not at all surprised to find Norma's on Northwest Highway in Dallas across from Bachman Lake. This is the place you ought try for lunch. You can stop you bid-ness or continue the meeting, but I don't know how you'll concentrate on work when those big fluffy rolls and butter and flaky cornbread shows up. Or when one of Norma's Blue Plate Specials arrives! Big 'ol chicken fried steak plates for $5.35. Meatloaf for $5.45 or Roast Beef ($5.85) or Fried Chicken ($5.95); all served with two homemade veggies (from a list of a dozen). Back in the 60's I don't remember noticing Ribeyes ($7.50) or Pork Chops ($7.25)--Maybe I was fixated on the chicken fried steak and gravy-But they have 'em now, along with Grilled Chicken Salad ($5.45) and lots more good for you stuff. Norma's also has juicy burgers and several tasty sandwiches. Including the world's most expensive peanut butter and jelly sandwich--$24.95 (you gotta really want it!). Pass on the P.B.&J., but do not pass on Norma's Cobbler or pies for dessert. All the beverage you can drink will help you wash it all down. I should point out that Norma's also serves a great breakfast, except during lunch hours, 11 till 2. They're happy to accommodate substitutions for just $19.95. Good, then make it a peanut and banana!
