Mustang Café
Bid-ness got you galloping? Wanna tie-up the ol' mount and do some horse-trading
at lunch time? Whoa-a-a, podner! Mosey on over to the Mustang Café at Williams Square in Los Colinas (with
the magnificent mustang sculpture). That's all the alliteration and western metaphors I can corral in one column
(OOPS, sorry!). The Mustang Café is not western in any respect. Its name comes from the famous attraction
outside in the square. In fact, great views of the ponies are available from most of the restaurant. The sleek,
comfortable setting is a good upscale business lunch location. The inside section of the restaurant, with booths,
is darker, but much quieter. Lots of variety on the Southwestern menu; the portions are generous and the preparation
is very good. For starters, quesadillas with a choice of chicken or tenderloin tips ($5.50), are tasty. The blackened
salmon tostadas ($6.25) on blue corn tortillas are excellent. The menu's "Fresh & Lite" section is
a great idea. Interesting salads include oriental chicken ($6.75), honey grilled salmon ($7.95) and seafood ($6.95).
Several pasta dishes with chicken or fish are offered for around 8 bucks, and there's a good vegetable lasagna
for $7.50. Heartier entrees range from jalapeno chicken marsala ($8.50)-sounds like a spaghetti western-to seafood
enchiladas ($8.95. These babies are packed with ahi tuna, shrimp, snapper and crawfish. It was a little warm for
the "all you can eat" beef stew ($7.95), but there it is in case you're hungry enough to eat a....I won't
say it. Offerings on the sandwich side could satisfy a drover's appetite, but the chuck-wagon never turned out
offerings like the Guinness Stout BBQ chicken mushroom on a foccacia bun ($7.25) or the Dallas Steak Baguette-a
half-pound of shaved rib-eye done Philly style ($7.95). Time to head 'em up and move 'em out to the Mustang Café.
Especially if your trail drives begin and end at DFW International.
