Mr. G's
By Jim White
On the surface, the phrase "great dining at the airport" qualifies as an
oxymoron.
Closer examination, however, reveals one of the classiest business lunch destinations
in the Metroplex is smack dab in the middle of DFW International.
Where? Borrowing from the airport's recent terminal designation shuffle, "It's
as simple as a, b, c
..G!"
Mr. G's in The Hyatt Regency DFW should be at the top of your list for a fine dining
experience if you're picking up or dropping off clients at the airport-the hotel even validates your airport parking.
Then, too, it's a great middle ground location to conduct business between Dallas
and Fort Worth.
And, frankly, it's good enough to be a destination restaurant.
It's easy to overlook Mr. G's. Most people don't think of driving to the airport
for great steaks, chops, seafood, a good wine list and flawless service.
The air of big city sophistication is all around. The place suggests beef, brandy
and cigars and that's what you get.
If you've been here in the evening you know the dining room is plush and swanky with
the feel of an executive boardroom.
I'm pleased to report they've recently started afternoon service.
I like the bigtime, entrée salads. You can get a "real" Caesar,
prepared tableside, with a choice of grilled prawns or roasted pork tenderloin ($15).
Fresh soups, like roasted red pepper bisque ($5), are sure to please.
Power meat dishes like a melt in your mouth tenderloin on the bone ($23) with portabello
mashed potatoes and a massive honey-soy glazed veal chop ($21) with caramelized chipotle onions are two great choices.
Tender South Texas Antelope Chop ($35) is another excellent item-a chef's recommendation.
Plenty of great seafood items are available, like roasted red snapper, a delicious
mesquite grilled steelhead salmon and seabass with mushroom risotto and seared foie gras (all $18).
The dessert cart is one of the most elegant and seductive presentations I've seen.
It features a daily selection of freshly made sweet treats ($5).
