Matt's Rancho Martinez

Everybody loves Tex-Mex, the national food of Texas, so why not have the best around for lunch? I won't get many arguments if I lay that distinction on Matt's Rancho Martinez in East Dallas (The Lakewood Shopping Center to be precise). Restaurateur Matt Matinez continues his family's long tradition of serving top quality, freshly prepared Mexican specialties at a very reasonable price. Check out Matt's "Tuesday thru Saturday Lunch Special", 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. Come hungry and bring a crowd (they'll thank you for it). For $5.25 you can choose between ten different items including Chalupas, Chile Relleno (outstanding), a mouthwatering Beef and Cheese Burrito, the incredible foot long enchilada (actually two combined) or one of Matt's famous Chicken Fried Steaks, "Country Style" or "Cowboy Style". Matt's Rancho Martinez is closed Monday, so they extend the lunch specials all day Tuesday from opening till closing (9:30 P.M.). For an appetizer order The Bob Armstrong Dip. It's not on the menu, but you don't have to use a secret hand-shake, just ask for it-trust me on this one--and your lunch mates will be impressed. What's your Tex-Mex fancy? I haven't found anything I don't like at Matt's. The Quesadillas are wonderful ($7.95). Flautas are grilled (never fried) and perfectly crunchy ($7.95). The Tortilla Soup has big chunks of chicken in it and they'll serve you a cup with an entree for $1.50. Try the Cowboy Drunk Beans (no designated driver required) these awesome pintos are fat free and served for a buck-fifty a cup. Service is good, so you can easily get in and out on a lunch hour. It's the perfect place to take that out of town client or associate who wants some real Mexican Food. It's right in the middle of everything even though it's not really close to a major freeway (I-30 Munger Exit is the closest). But it's only a ten minute drive from downtown, or The Park Cities, and it's worth the drive from anywhere (I've driven from Carrollton for Matt's Nachos and a cold Cerveza).
