Mainstream Fish House
Did ol dad ever tell you, "the great lunch spots have all the truckers parked
out front"--or police cars or taxis or whatever maxim ol dad used? Truth is, the great lunch spots fill up
fast no matter who parks out front, and Mainstream Fish House in North Dallas is one of 'em. Most days there's
a wait by noon. The good news is there's not much of a wait, because the service is efficient. The really good
news is, the food is worth waiting for. First check out Mainstream's "catch of the day" lunch special
for $7.95 including a side dish (fries, baked potato, cole slaw, or a host of veggies). We had a great Pecan encrusted
Trout in a red pepper cream sauce. It was melt in your mouth. Other days feature Salmon, Halibut, etc. You can
order grilled fresh fish, called "The Reel Deal", but at dinner menu prices of $13.95. For appetizers,
you can get oysters fried or raw, and half order deals like crab cakes for $7.95 or a singleton for $4.50. Shrimp,
chilled, grilled or fried, $6.95 a half-dozen or $11.95 for a fullboat. The best deal is 3 dozen peel and eat shrimp
for $9.95. Gumbo is thick and hearty. Tasty soups and chowder too, $3.75 a cup or $5.25 a bowl. You can catch a
decent Po-Boy Sandwich for $6.95, but I'd stick with the fish selections. Lunch Combos with salad and soup or soup
and half Po-Boy's are available for about $6.50. You can also get a Caesar for $2.95 (add shrimp for 5 bucks or
chicken for $4.); also seafood salads from $7.95 to $11.95 for Lobster Louie. Business lunch benefits: If you're
In early you can usually get Out within 30 minutes; place looks great and would impress a client; Chef Jim Olson
was at Café Pacific; easy to get to from Tollway or LBJ (southwest corner Preston and Forest); 4 other places
for lunch within a hundred yards in case Mainstream is crowded.
