Lombardi Mare

Alberto Lombardi is a successful restaurateur of the highest calibre. I’ve been a fan since the original old house on McKinney in the 70’s.

Now, for Italian seafood it’s Lombardi Mare-- Mare, or Italian for The Sea. It’s in Addison, in Village on the Parkway.

Mare is a full range of wonderful Italian seafood specialties and non-seafood Italian delights.

Hot and cold antipasti favorites are Carpaccio made with Sashimi Grade Tuna and arugula, hearts of palm and Lemon Pepper Vinaigrette--and some of the tastiest fried Calamari I’ve had this side of Chicago. It comes with a choice of Marinara or Tomato Caper Dipping Sauce. You’ll also find clams and oysters on the half-shell.

An interesting salad is the Baby Octopus marinated in lime vinaigrette with sliced boiled potatoes. Want a soup? Go for the Lobster Bisque.

Pastas and Risotti are outstanding. Taglionlini tossed with Dungeness Crab, Lemon Zest and Cream is delicious. Or, try the homemade seafood filled spinach Tortelloni with a lobster-brandy sauce. Ever had seafood lasagne? It’s made with lobster, shrimp, scallops and crab at Mare.

We’ve stayed primarily with seafood entrees. The Sautéed Polenta Crusted Salmon with Red Cabbage and a chive Bourbon glaze is very nice. Also, the Dover Sole, which comes grilled or sautéed. You’ll also find veal, chicken and beef on the menu. Plus, nightly specials that really shine. We had a grilled Escobar served with red and yellow pepper sauces that was rich and flavorful. Live Maine Lobster and Dungeness Crab are also available.

Dolci are rich and varied. You’ll find an array of soufflés; a wonderful Chocolate hazelnut Gelato, drowned in Kahlua and garnished with cherries; and homemade Tuscan Bread Pudding, like Mama made. Of course, the obligatory tiramisu is there, or try a Lombardi house specialty, Spaghetti Ice.

The wine list is a combination Italian and Domestic. Several wines are served by the glass.

Mare’s design is beautiful. I love the use of seafood mobiles. The colors and the etched glass in the entrance are stunning. The place has style and sophistication. There’s usually a power table or two convened.

Mare is open for lunch and dinner. Only dinner on Saturday. Brunch is served on Sunday. Reservations at 972-503-1233. It’s located at Village on the Parkway in Addison, on Montfort just south of Beltline.
