Legal Grounds
Do you swear to eat your lunch? Your whole lunch, and nothing but your lunch?
Relax. Nothing you say will be used against you in a court of law. I know a place where you can have lunch and,
perhaps, settle a point of law if the need arises. Legal Grounds, is a novel concept that opened about a year ago.
Attorney David Musslewhite and his wife Laura Murphy run the place. She spotted something similar in California.
Legal Grounds serves up coffee, cappuccino and bakery items by morning (and through he day) and then the "Daily
Lunch Docket". The shingle is still out, too, for Attorney Musselwhite who continues to run his general practice
law firm from the back of the establishment. How about a scone, some Earl Grey and a simple will? Need advice on
a real estate matter? Let's have a B-L-T while the counselor looks over the contract. I haven't gotten any legal
advice, but I have had lunch several times and I can tell you it makes for a nice respite in East Dallas. Everything
on the simple and tasty menu is a play on legal terms. "Supreme Court Salads" include grilled vegetable
($5.50) with goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette, and a garlic roasted chicken salad ($6.50) that I particularly
like. It's served with a Texas cornstick on the side. Sandwiches are all-American. Sliced beef on a whole-wheat
bun ($6.25); tuna melt on a baguette ($5.95) with Wisconsin cheddar; a good cilantro lime chicken breast sandwich
with jack cheese and grilled red onion ($5.95). "Texas Caviar"-black eyed peas with jalapeno-is a good
sandwich side. You can get a "Bailiff's Bowl" with a small house salad ($6.50) or just the bowl of soup
($3.50). "Criminal Delights" are assorted pastries and desserts. "Final Decision" is assorted
drinks, coffees and teas. A nice cuppa can be make for a very civilized day. No hung jury here. The verdict is
in. All rise, and order in the court--uh, counter.
