La Dolce Vita Ah, the sweet life! Especially for folks who live or work close to La Dolce Vita, a new Italian restaurant in Lakewood. It used to be a rather sleepy coffee house. A change of ownership has produced a complete transformation and the place has awakened from its somnolent state. La Dolce Vita is comfortable, open and bright. The main dining area is dominated by the open kitchen and giant wood-fired oven. A side corridor feels piazza-like with plants and cozy tables. This place has romantic written all over it, but La Dolce Vita also makes a smart business lunch locale. It's hip, the menu is varied, it's close to downtown or The Central Corridor, and here's a thought, if you need a lawyer to close a deal you can walk across the street to "Legal Grounds" after dessert. I'm very impressed with the menu. Salads are full of flavor and fresh veggies! Several are offered with choice ingredients and great dressings. Choose a small for $2.95 or a large (big enough for a light meal) for $4.95. Don't miss the minestrone. It's hearty, rich and full of potatoes. Great Foccacia, Panini, Pasta and Pizza. Value Prices! The same for lunch and dinner. How 'bout $5.95 for your choice of pasta and sauce? The Chicken Brasciole is divine (chicken breast, white wine, garlic and tomatoes). You'll find a sauce you like from Pizzaiola to Cream Prosciutto. Mama, mia! Pizza crust is thin and flaky. Get a small for $5.95 or Grande for $8.95 if you want to share. Interesting ingredients range from chicken to meatballs to broccoli. I love the sauce. Tiramisu and Gelato are highlights of the dessert menu. Relax over a nice espresso or cappuccino afterwards. The wine list is short, but sweet-figuratively-it's all Italian and recommended by Tony LaBarba, who also taught the servers a thing or two about pouring a good glass.
