Johnny Orleans Jazzy and snazzy Johnny Orleans promises "flavors of the world" and delivers! It's Nawlins specialties with pasta and pizza from a wood-fired oven. It's a little bit Cajun, a little bit Tuscan, a little Southwestern, a little bit Asian, and a touch of California, too! Trademarked, Mediterranean style, Bomba bread, ($1.35) is very tasty with the stuffed oven-roasted red pepper, filled with feta cheese ($2.95). Salads, oh yeah! One of the best I've had is the Orleans Walnut Salad ($5.25 small or $8.95 regular). It's a world-class taste treat, with red and green leaf lettuce, red cabbage and onions along with gorgonzola and grilled chicken. Did somebody say pizza? Choices include Thai Chicken ($8.95) and Pizza Muffaletta ($7.95), an interesting combination of pasta and pizza together. The pizzas are big enough to share. Sharing is encouraged here, and I recommend it, because the portions are big! How 'bout doze pastas? In a word, outstanding! Don't miss Jambalaya Pasta ($8.95) filled with Andouille sausage, shrimp and chicken. Spicy Thai Pasta ($7.95) has a hint of sweetness and features shrimp, chicken, and Shitake mushrooms. A sensational Cajun Crawfish Pasta ($9.95) brims with peeled crawfish. It's topped with provolone and served on a bed of jalapeno linguine. Um-m, um-m! The gumbo on the side is delicious! Another good bet is the "Specialty of the House", Cedar grilled fish (du jour) is served blackened or regular with basilica sauce and veggies ($14.95). The menu prices are extremely reasonable, and they're the same lunch or dinner. This great, old house in Uptown hustles and bustles with the noon-time crowd. It's not recommended for quiet, serious discussions, but hey, all work and no play, right? This is still a great place to take a client on a break or to bring the office lunch bunch.
