Cindi’s New York Style Deli & Pancake House

By Jim White

Here’s a success story that works on three levels. First, Cindi’s New York Style Deli & Pancake House has persevered in the extraordinarily tough restaurant business for almost 25 years.

The second success was the purchase of the popular, but declining, delis in 1989 by Anh Tran. Her family seemed to breathe new life into the business.

And finally, if you’re on a quest for New York style deli favorites you will succeed here.

There’s a dizzying array of sandwiches, on rye of course, platters, combos, salads, eggs, omelettes and more to satisfy your appetite.

How ‘bout a nice hot corned beef sandwich ($6.25)? Thin sliced and lean, the way you like it. That, along with turkey-freshly roasted ($5.55), tends to be my sandwich of choice.

You might opt for chopped liver ($5.95) or Kosher salami ($5.95). The list goes on. All are served with potato salad or cole slaw.

From Cindi’s “order by number” combos I always wind up at number 10: New York Reuben. Um-m-m! Corned beef, sauerkraut and melted Swiss on rye grilled just right ($7.15). Bring on the Kosher pickles.

Of course, Matzo Ball Soup ($3.95) is available. You’re also in a wonderland of Lox and bagels ($13.95), chicken salad ($7.25), Latkes “to live for” (potato pancakes) and blintzes for your sweet tooth (cheese $6.50, blueberry $6.25). “You tawkin’ to me?”

Cindi’s delicious pancakes and waffles are served all day long. Pick a style. I adore the banana nut pancakes with the pecans baked-in, garnished with fresh bananas and chopped pecans ($4.95).

Daily lunch specials served from 11 o’clock on include a choice of three entrée specials and two vegetables for around six bucks. Favorites like beef stew and cornbread ($4.75) or soup and ½ sandwich ($4.95) are available everyday.

Want more sandwiches? Philly cheese steak is there. Ditto, Club, Patty Melt and a double-decker burger.

It’s deli heaven west of the Hudson. “You are tawkin’ to me.”
