Champps Americana Two dozen sandwiches. Bunches of burgers. A ton of starters. Pizza. Pasta. Salads. And there's more at Champps Americana in Addison. They take a pledge seriously, "...creating a wide variety of menu items...we guarantee you won't go away hungry." It's an understatement. Champps offers "mass quantities of food" (quoth the Coneheads) and "it tastes good" (quoth a Lite Beer commercial-I may need a Bartlett's). This is not haute cuisine. It's grub American style--comfort food-- munchies. It's formula, but the formula works. This Minneapolis-St. Paul transplant has done well in the restaurant proving ground of America (Addison). The Twin Cities operation has aggressive expansion plans. It's a big, open, airy, comfortable place. I'd be happy eating at the bar or in the expansive dining room. The kitchen is open so you get to catch that action. There's a giant multiple video screen at the front of the house providing all the visual stimulation your cerebral cortex can handle. I think the entire cable system was playing all at once. Sports and news junkies will love it here-channel surfer heaven. Feel comfortable bringing a group here, because everyone will find something to order. The service is attentive and accommodating. You can get in and out in a hurry if you're on a time budget. Also, even though the place is big, and fairly crowded, it's not too loud. Conversation is a key ingredient to a business lunch. Consider sharing salads or entrees. Unless you're very hungry, the doggy bag will follow you back to the office. My only complaint? A house salad described as iceberg turned out to be romaine and interesting greens. I would have ordered one. Maybe they need a vegetable seminar. Prices? Salads, $6.95 to $9.75. Sandwiches, $5.50 (BLT) to $9.75 (filet mignon). Entrees, $9.50 (rotisserie chicken) to $15.95 (ribeye).
