Breadwinner's Café and Bakery
Winning the hearts and minds of foodies and keepin' 'em comin' back. Breadwinner's
is as close to "all things to all people" as I've seen. Want breakfast, lunch and dinner? You got it.
Sunday brunch? Natch. Fresh baked breads, muffins, brownies, cookies, pies and cakes? OK. Want lunch for breakfast?
Or vice versa? Choose your body clock setting. Breadwinners has it all. Let me point out, this is not the place
for that quiet, intimate conversation. On one recent visit I wished I had learned to sign. The cacophony can be
maddening. Waiter, may I have a bullhorn? Breadwinner's is in the old brick courtyard building where Andrew's used
to live. Hard surfaces and lots of bodies-an acoustics nightmare. Now, having said that, come on in for the creative
and diverse menu. Most of the sandwich creations are $6.50. I've had the Turkey Reuben on grilled sourdough, the
Pesto Chicken on wonderful tomato basil bread, the Herbed Chicken Salad with sprouts and Jim's Chicken Marinara
(with that name, I had to). These taste treats are served with curly fries, pasta salad or fresh fruit. They make
about a dozen more sandwiches too. They also make a mean Tortilla Rollup-chicken, vegetable or pesto chicken for
$6.25. Turkey Burgers on a whole grain bun are $6.50. They also have a Lentil Burger and a Portabella Patty Melt
for $6.95. You can also get it vegetarian style. Breadwinner's salads come regular or small ($6.95/$5.95). I love
the Bleu Cheese with Walnut. The Queen of Hearts (palm and artichokes) with chicken is a work of art. Good place
for a gregarious office group; show up early for a quick table; reservations for groups of 6 plus; fun, trendy
spot to take a hip client. The servers are stretched pretty thin, but you can have lunch in 45 minutes.
