The Blue Fish
By Jim White
It has a nice harmony in the mouth. And with that description, sushi chef Josh
Ogihara hands over one of his fresh and innovative creations at The Blue Fish.
The new L.A. style sake bar on Greenville Avenue (across from The Granada Theatre)
is sleek and stylish.
They claim the most extensive selection of sake in Texas, both domestic and imported.
Consider this hip sushi, sashimi and robata bar (grilled delights) a must-go if you
savor these Japanese delicacies.
Sushi fans will be impressed with the freshness of the fish-everything tried-was top
quality.
Tiger-Eye ($10.50), is an unforgettable taste treat. This creative offering is made
by slitting squid steak, inserting smoked salmon with a wonderful pickled carrot inside (the eye) and wrapping
the morsel in nori (dried seaweed).
Salmon roe with quail eggs creates so many layers of texture and flavor it would take
the rest of my space to describe it. Better to experience it!
Pricing ranges from $3.75 to $6.50 per item (from the menu) and is served two per
order. Order individually, or on a chefs special basis. I highly recommend you let the chef take you on a guided
tour of his best products.
Now, for those who dont like sushi you will enjoy the chicken, beef, or seafood
items from the robata-yaki (char grill).
There are also many non-sushi items on the lunch menu. Including chicken and beef
teriyaki ($8.50/$9.25) with a California roll, steamed rice and miso soup or salad.
Traditional sticky rice bowls (donburi) are served with chicken ($6.50), beef ($7.25),
vegetable ($4.95), orange roughy ($6.50) and fresh water eel ($10.00).
If a client is visiting from the West Coast, this is a place that will impress.
Two of our top chefs were dining here for lunch on one of my visits. A good sign.
One of them was offering very positive feedback to me on his sushi. A strong endorsement.
