Bangkok City

10 cc recorded a song once called…”One Night in Bangkok”…they said it was like a year in any other place. They meant the diversity…the pace….the excitement…the flavors. You’ll find a great taste of Thailand in Dallas at Bangkok City in East Dallas.

Flavors bursting….great diversity. Bangkok City has an amazing menu. Love Thai food-this is a great place to try if you haven’t, or to try again if it’s been awhile. Not sure if you like Thai? Bangkok City is the place I’d recommend you try for an initiation. You’ll be back often.

For starters, don’t miss Bangkok-Imperial rolls. Four fresh vegetable and shrimp rolls wrapped in rice paper. The sweet and sour sauce is delightful. We also enjoyed the Chicken Satay. You grill it yourself at the table-the peanut sauce is great and the cucumber salad is crunchy and tart.

A full-range of popular Thai soups are served by the bowl or as a main course. Including the typical Thai hot and sour shrimp with mushrooms, lemon grass and lime leaves. A good selection of cold Thai Salads are also offered at Bangkok City. Including squid, shrimp, beef or a Gulf of Thailand Seafood Salad.

There’s never a way to make an easy decision when it comes to entrees on a Thai menu. The selection is so broad. Bangkok City is no exception. Maybe instead of trying to do what the song I mentioned refers to, “ cramming a year’s experience into one night”; you’d be better off doing what I always do in a Thai Restaurant-order impulsively. I let my eyes fall on new or unusual sounding dishes and give them a whirl, so to speak; then, I try other dishes the next time. Most Thai dishes are so tasty that you won’t be disappointed with any selection, unless you just don’t like certain ingredients or have a food allergy. The people at Bangkok City are also very helpful about describing their menu and offering suggestions. Many of the dishes are hot and spicy, but you have a choice of very mild to Native Thai-I can only imagine.

We particularly enjoyed the sautéed beef “Kiss Me! Garlic” with fresh garlic, ground pepper and sweet peas. And since I love curry, I also recommend you try the Gang-Mussaman which is yellow sweet curry with potatoes, peanuts and onions in coconut milk. As with most of their entrees at Bangkok City, you have a choice of beef, pork or chicken as the meat in each dish. Or, you can have any dish prepared vegetarian style. You'll also find Duck, Fish, Shrimp or Squid entrees here. Of course, the wonderful Thai noodle dishes are offered at Bangkok City too. They use no MSG in their dishes at Bangkok City. Beer, wine and cocktails are available. The wine list is very limited. Their Chardonnay by the glass is almost fruity enough to work with Thai, but Gewurtztraminer would be a better choice by the bottle.

For dessert, you have a choice of Coconut Ice Cream or Sweet Rice with Thai Custard. Bangkok City is open every night for dinner, and Monday through Friday for lunch. You should be able to find parking adjacent on the street. The restaurant is located at 4301Bryan at Peak in Dallas. Their phone number is 824-6200.
