Palomino
Palomino is sleek and snazzy. The posh restaurant rode into town from Seattle
in a blaze of glory. The food and décor live up to the hype.
A fabulous taste-tempter is brought to the table, a pomodoro sauce alive with chunky
tomatoes and garlic that is perfect, with the accompanying bread, for making impromptu
bruschetta.
The Caesar is grand at Palomino. Great, fresh romaine. Dressing salty from just a
hint of anchovy, and just garlicky enough. On other visits weve enjoyed the thin and flaky wood-fired pizzas and
a not to be missed spit-roasted garlic chicken.
Grilled chicken with an apricot cilantro sauce is surprisingly bland. The best part
is the cinnamon cous cous its served with. We also tried a tasty, but somewhat overcooked, grilled swordfish,
topped with roasted sweet-peppers and a toasted almond sauce.
Desserts include bread pudding; tiramisu; a molten tower of chocolate, an apple-cranberry
tart; and an interesting sounding, but not tried, Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Sorbet.
Wines by the glass are fairly numerous, but fairly expensive. The wine list is primarily
California, but some homage is paid to Palominos Pacific Northwest Roots with a few Columbia Valley offerings.
Considering the surroundings and the overall quality of the food, Palominos prices
are not too steep.
When the place starts rocking (as the night rolls on), the noise level isnt very
conducive to intimate conversation. Palomino does swirl with that Euro-Bistro Rhythm that gives it a sort-of a
chic disco feel. If the cacophony of late-night cool isnt your thing-I would recommend Palomino for an early supper
before plans at The Myerson or The Majestic.
Palamino is open for lunch and dinner. Phone 214-999-1222 for reservations.
