Dallas attorney, Scott Chase, recently took a trip to New England to compile research
for his guest spot on The KRLD Restaurant Show with Jim White (Sundays 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on 1080 AM). Scott was
the high-bidder in a charity auction for The Dallas Opera. His quest? To become guest Wine Guy on the popular
weekly program. Scott took his mission seriously. Below is his list of favorite wining, dining and lodging experiences
from a trip to Boston, Maine and Nova Scotia.
Restaurants
Boston-Mamma Maria-upscale Tuscan food (truffle ravioli, boar with flageolets, osso buco) with Italian red and
white wine selections from all regions and price ranges-In North End.
Boston-Antico Forno-Rustic Tuscan (lunch)-ribollita, lamb sandwich and pasta/bean stew-North End.
Boston-Fenway Park-Great Italian Sausage po-boy outside gate from street vendor.
Camden, Maine-Atlantica-Pacific Rim Seafood (crusted salmon, crab cakes and halibut with coconut pesto) with short,
value-prieced and appealing wine list.
Camden, Maine-Belmont-Upscale American cuisine (lamb loin, roasted fois gras, stuffed chicken, lavender ice cream.
Good wine list, including by the glass.
Bar Harbor, Maine-Porcupine Grille-upscale American cuisine (duck, sea bass) with Wine Spectator rating.
Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia-The White Raven-upscale Canadian Food (salmon, scallops with gravlax, savory rosemary
pancakes with smoked chicken, halibut with caviar) with innovative, compact wine list.
Accommodations:
Bar Harbor, Maine-The Inn at Bay Ledge-great view of Frenchmans Bay, good breakfast and friendly hosts.
Annapolis Royal-Queen Anne B&B-well located and well furnished inn with outgoing innkeepers, cook to order
breakfast.
St. Martin, New Brunswick-St. Martins Inn-secluded seaside town on Bay of Fundy-good view of bay and good breakfast
and dinner.
Boston-The Tremont House-well located near The Common
Newbury Guest House-B&B in Back Back area near shopping, with breakfast.
Rockport, Maine-Strawberry Hill Motor Inn-motel on a small bay with good view, breakfast included.
