Tried this lively place on a recent Saturday evening. Located
in an upscale area of northwest Austin, EddieV’s specializes in
fish and seafood, but also offers a variety of steak cuts, and
chicken, veal, and salads. We started our meal seafood bisque and
beefsteak tomato and sweet onion salads. Some of the more unusual
appetizers included steak sashimi and two large ($34.50 each) hot or
cold combination platters that can easily serve multiple diners.
Oyster, shrimp and two types of crab claws were also available, and
seemed to be a popular choice .The bisque was delicious, although
the sweet onions were more tangy than sweet.
Our main courses
consisted of horseradish- encrusted salmon, crab stuffed broiled
shrimp, and charcoal-grilled mahi mahi served with blue crab
fritters. Other offerings included ahi tuna, Chilean seabass,
swordfish and several other fruits of the sea.
Side dishes were offered a
la carte, and we enjoyed the sautéed mushrooms, sugar snap
peas, and seafood rice.
The wine list was
presented on the menu, and had numerous California, French, Chilean,
and Australian selections in the $20-50 range. We
chose a moderately-priced Sauvignon Blanc from the Central Coast
which complemented our entrees nicely. In addition, a higher priced
“reserve” wine list is presented separately, where the vintage
costs start at 3 figures.
While we skipped
dessert, numerous selections were available, and we watched other
diners enjoy themselves in rich concoctions.
EddieV’s also has locations in downtown Austin as well
as Scottsdale, Arizona. The concept was developed by the same two
fellows who started Z’Tejas
